Orchard Grass is our choice

Here, we provide our alpacas with Orchard Grass. We have gotten it from Stand-Lee hay in Idaho and from a coop of alpaca ranchers in central texas who purchase from Colorado. We get it tested every year and look for (among other things) approx 12 pct protein levels. Coastal is very available but by our experience, has deficient nutritive value.

We also supplement the hay with grain and minerals. They always have access to the minerals, and we grain 2x per day.

Orchard grass Coop

I would sure like to get a coop going here in the Dallas area to purchase Orchard Grass. Our alpacas preferred this type of grass over any other, by far. Do you mind me asking for your contact in Colorado? How much needs to be purchased in order for them to make the delivery down here to Texas?

I feed Sudan

I feed Hay Grazer which is a hybrid of Sorghum and Sudan. The alpacas (and the goats, and the sheep, and the rabbits) all love it. I haven't had it tested, but based on a hay comparison chart I found, the protein level is high, even on the 2nd cut.
