LANA 2004-2005 Activities Report

 

1.      LANA contributes to the greater llama and alpaca community to benefit both animals and their owners.

  1. Participates in the annual Camelid Community (formerly Lama Community)

1)      Helped create proposal for National Lama Intervention and Rescue Coordination Council (IRC Council) presented and adopted at 2004 gathering; worked to flesh out organizational details of proposal for presentation at 2005 Camelid Community; will have permanent seat on IRC Council

2)      Helped write draft proposals for Minimum Standards of Care document

3)      Coordinating agenda, registration and logistics of 2005 Camelid Community

  1. Participates in the Camelid Working Group (CWG)

1)      Working with other members of llama and alpaca community to gather input and recommend camelid portion of National Animal Identification System

2)       Member of CWG’s Outreach and Education Committee, connecting with camelid owners nationwide to publicize program details and gather comments

       C. Maintains and distributes Camelid Research Fund at Morris Animal Foundation

 

2.      LANA collaborates with other organizations to provide broader based and enhanced services for camelids and their owners.

  1. ILR: Invited ILR board to hold ILR’s annual meeting at 2005 LANA Expo
  2. ICI: LANA members on advisory council in support of this all-encompassing effort
  3. Montana Large Animal Sanctuary: Work together in camelid intervention, rescue
  4. Llama Quest: Partnered in producing educational materials/display at Estes Park
  5. Local and Regional Organizations: Cooperate on a variety of youth, packing, show, education and research efforts

 

3.      LANA provides programs and services to its members and continuously looks for new ways to help members and their animals.

  1. Held 2005 Expo with wide-ranging educational conference, double PLTA sanctioned pack llama trials and double point ALSA show
  2. Published four issues of LANA News with original feature articles, educational departments and current events listings
  3. Provided quality web site with up-to-the-minute news and information on national camelid issues as well as member services and opportunities
  4. Introduced E-Mail Bulletin to notify members of important issues, information and deadlines and enhance our communication ability
  5. Started “LANA Bazaar” linking the E-Mail Bulletin and web site in a unique and enjoyable fundraising effort
  6. Selected three practicing veterinarians to receive camelid reference packages in the 2005 Hand in Hand Program
